flamenco and classical guitar

Home

Welcome!  I am a classical and flamenco guitarist based in Richmond, Virginia and Seville, Spain.
In Richmond, I perform as a soloist and in the ensembles Sueños Gitanos (flamenco-inspired music),
Fado Nosso (Portuguese Fado music), and the Richmond Guitar Quartet (classical guitar).
I will be living in Seville, Spain from August 2013 through June 2014 to study the art of flamenco accompaniment
and to compose and record a new album.

Recent News

August 11th, 2013 - Greetings from Seville!  I arrived in Spain one week ago today and have spent the last week getting settled in Seville and diving into the Spanish language (my main focus for these first six weeks).  Classes start at the flamenco school Fundacion Cristina Heeren on September 16th. From then on my full time focus will be learning flamenco rhythm, accompaniment, technique and traditions.

-New Thank You Page is Updated - Thanks to all the individuals and RVA businesses who helped me get to Sevilla! Their names and/or websites are listed here.

July 2013 - Summer Recording Project - The Richmond Guitar Quartet spent June and July rehearsing for and recording four tracks for its debut album.  The album will feature Piazolla's "Fuga y Misterio", the 2nd movement of Beethoven's 7th Symphony, and Fugues 9 and 14 from Bach's Art of the Fugue.  Stay tuned for details on the release of this recording!

-New Rodriguez Flamenco Guitar!  Just in time for my flamenco studies in Spain, I acquired a lovely (both in looks and sound) flamenco guitar with cypress back and sides and a cedar top.
I am loving its bright, percussive sound that will be perfect for accompanying singers and dancers.

June 2013 - Denver Walker's New Website - My friend and colleague Denver Walker (of Sueños Gitanos and Duo Allegro) recently created a beautiful and informative music website.  She graduated from VCU with a classical guitar degree and is beginning what is sure to be an exciting music career.
Check out her site and follow her music here.

May 2013 - The Solea on Sueños Gitanos's debut album was inspired by and named after the character Iorek Byrnison from Philip Pullman's fantasy trilogy His Dark Materials (the Golden Compass, etc).  Mr Pullman is one of my favorite authors, so of course I had to send him a copy of the album.  He was kind enough to write back "I'm full of admiration for your technique and musicianship and that of your fellow musicians in Sueños Gitanos. I especially like the fascinating blend of colours and influences that runs through the whole album... Thank you for Iorek and for the whole album."
